This Month’s tip comes from Debbie
Metzler, Microenterprise Specialist. Based on her
experience, Debbie finds the following factors are essential to
the success of the partnership:
- Mutual
benefit must exist for all partners;
- Honesty
and a sense of humor are crucial;
- Each
partner must have a voice, vote and an opportunities to
participate;
- Involvement
of the intended beneficiaries is important in order to better
meet their needs;
- Before
accomplishing anything in the project, a trusting and
noncompetitive relationship between the partners needs to be
established;
- Open and
honest discussions about conflict must be encouraged;
- An outside
consultant may be necessary at times for providing
neutral facilitation and taking the leadership role;
- Partnerships
change, as do the member organizations; a written
memorandum of understanding is needed to protect the future of
the partnership.
