Westbrook Meiko is an 8-year-old Siberian Husky/possibly Malamute mix who is energetic yet polite. These are dogs whose wild heritage is often close to the surface, and among people who love this breed this is what makes them interesting. Prior to his left alone test, Meiko took the initiative of exploring our storage room, and spent the time allotted for his test happily chewing on a rawhide. Meiko loves rawhide chew toys, but prefers to enjoy them in private. This Meet Your Match® Orange “Busy Bee” greeted his evaluator politely and calmly. He could be enticed to play with toys, but only briefly. He demonstrated that he knew the verbal commands sit, stay, down, and come. When we introduced him to a crate, he went in willingly and settled right down. Meiko will do well with some dogs but not with others. Meiko lived with cats in the past and may be okay with dog-savvy cats in his home. His history with children is unknown, and at his age we would recommend against asking him to adapt to a home with kids, or expecting kids to adapt to his idiosyncrasies. This energetic boy has a propensity to run so a fenced in yard would be best. If you understand Huskies and love them, you need look no further than Meiko.
