Daily Maine Fact

Q: Where was Maine's first Grange?
A: Maine's first chapter of the Grange of the Patrons of Husbandry was Eastern Star Grange No. 1, founded in Hampden in 1873, six years after the national farmers' movement began. At its peak, in the early 1900s, Maine had more than 400 Grange chapters and more than 60,000 members.
